How to reach Matheran?
If you’re visiting Matheran from Mumbai or Pune, then you’ll need to start by taking a train. There are two ways to do this. If you’re travelling from Mumbai, then take a train to Thane and then a transfer to the Matheran Railway Station. There are two trains that leave from Mumbai at 9:40 PM and 10:40 PM and arrive at Matheran at 9:15 AM and 10:15 AM. If you’re visiting from Pune, then take a train to Karjat and transfer to the Matheran Railway Station. There are two trains that leave from Pune at 5:45 PM and 7:00 PM and arrive at Matheran at 5:15 AM and 7:15 AM.

There are very few hotels and guest houses in Matheran so make sure to book in advance or you might not find a room at all. The best place to stay in the Forest Rest House which is an official accommodation in Matheran. The Forest Rest House is a government-run hotel and is relatively cheap.
